Voters across the Borough of Macclesfield have a chance this autumn to update the Electoral Register.

The annual canvass for 2008 is underway from this month and is designed to obtain the name and address of everyone who may vote at elections such as the European Parliament next year, or in a referendum.

A form is being sent to every property in the Borough to find out the details of all eligible people living there on 15 October. It is a legal requirement to provide the information requested.

Electoral Services Officer Diane Todd says: “If the details are unchanged, residents can either confirm this by telephone, online, or by posting the form back to Macclesfield Borough Council in the envelope provided. If there are any changes to be made in your details you will need to post the form back to the Council, showing the changes to be made.”

The Electoral Register is also used to select people for jury service, and as the base for credit referencing and proof of a person’s identity.

If you have not received a form by 22 September, please contact MBC’s Electoral Services helpline on 01625 504226.
