John Clowes, manager of Chain and Gate  was struggling for words and questioned his players commitment  after watching them simply fall apart against Unicorn from the Leek Sunday League. It was a dismal start to the season for the division one side who were hoping for better things having dropped from the Macc Sunday Leagues’ Premier Division at the end of last season. Unicorn however , were naturally delighted . Tom Coutts hit  six, Mark Ogden five and there were further goals from Richard Eltham, Grant Robinson, Tom Bleese and Stuart Smith as they cruised through to the 1st Round.

At Clarke Lane, Sporting Kerridge entertained Poynton who finished twenty points ahead of them  last term. In a close game the visitors just edged it despite some frayed nerves  in the final few  minutes following  a spectacular thirty yard strike from Sporting’s  Edward Joseph which made the score 1-2. Poynton’s goals came from Lee Stubbs and Rick Cash.

In the final tie  Peover made it to the first round after a comprehensive second half demolition of Disley. Having taken the lead in the first half , they were pegged back by a James Williamson strike to go in at the interval 1-1.

The second half was one way traffic as the hosts scored a further six times without reply. Alex  Pearson and Mike Dalton both scored twice, with Liam Gardner, Jonny Scott and Tom Rhodes completing the rout.
