Playing in their first ever rugby league festival at Warrington on Saturday, Macclesfield under 14s announced themselves to be a team to be watched as the season progresses. While the girls came away without a win they played with skill and determination against more experienced teams from the rugby league heartlands of Warrington, Widnes, and Wigan. While never disgraced, there were two standout performances. The first was a 4-2 defeat against Shevington Sharks. Not only did the girls erase the memory of a crushing defeat a few weeks ago against the Sharks they also scored their first ever try when Abi Hargreaves pounced on a cross field kick to touch down in the corner. The second performance of note was against a powerful Warrington Wolves team who average 8 tries against their opponents. Through brave defence Warrington were restricted to 5 tries. The Wolves themselves were put under pressure and at times had to scramble to prevent Macclesfield from scoring.
Team: Emma Beard, Alice Carden, Abi Hargreaves, Mollie Heywood, Rachael Marriott, Sandy Rushton, Ellie Sneesby, Erica Wood.
