Week Twenty Eight– No change at the top as Puss In Boots finish champions and Old Alts Vets finish runners up.
In the Subsidiary Cup there was a thumping. victory for Poynton Kingfisher
League
Old Alts Vets 5 Mary Dendy 3
The Vets turned on the style as they consolidated their position as runners up in the ECL. Having been held 1-1 in the first half they scored four times in the second half against third place Dendy at Crossford Bridge. Neil Cooper led the scoring with two for the Vets , both headers and he was assisted by Gary Fittes, with a free kick , Henry Finn and leading goalscorer Ian Hunt with his seventh league goal of the season. Mary Dendy weighed in with an Andy Currie strike and two from the league’s top goalscorer Matty Morris who hit a brace taking his tally to twenty in the league.
Boarhound 0 Puss In Boots 3
Credit to referee David Freidlander and players from both sides who agreed that the game should go ahead in quite atrocious conditions . In driving wind and horizontal rain Boarhound had the better of the early skirmishes playing with the wind in their favour and kept Puss keeper Andy Atkinson on his toes. The Puss played on the break but despite good approach play their attacks were thwarted by John Cooper and Wayne Shufflebottom in the Boarhound back four. Puss did however breach their defence seven minutes before the break after good work from Lee Malkin left Simon Ainsworth to slot the ball home.
The visitors took control in the second half and a cheeky back heeled goal from Lee McIntyre six minutes into the second half gave the league champions some breathing space. Jamie Collins and Ian Potts continued to battle in midfield for Boarhound but with eighteen minutes remaining centre half Matt Roberts , making a rare foray into the penalty area crashed home a thunderous shot which went in off the underside of the bar to secure all three points for the Puss and help them finish their league campaign unbeaten.
Subsidiary Cup- Group A
Poynton Kingfisher 6 Old Alts 1
A 1-0 deficit at half time perhaps gave Alts a false sense of security as they were steam rollered by a buoyant kingfisher side who scored five times in the second half. The men responsible were leading scorer Luke Murray who grabbed himself a hat-trick to take his total to eleven for the season and Adam Ledgar who also hit three. How the home side would have wished for goalscorers like this earlier in the season! Alts only consolation was a goal from ex kingfisher player Takunda Musungwa.
