A Review Of The Trade Mark Collections East Cheshire League

Week Twenty four

An excellent weekend for our local teams as Muttley O’Neill’s Mary Dendy side  and Maurice Sutton’s Boarhound team  made sure the ECL had two representatives in the Inter-League Cup Semi-finals after impressive victories against  Crewe Reserves and Curshaws, both teams from the  Crewe and District League.

Inter - League Cup Quarter Finals

Mary Dendy   3    Crewe Reserves   1

Mary Dendy eased into the semi –finals of the Inter-League Cup  after a controlled display at Mary Dendy Fields. Prolific marksman Matty Morris was on target to give the hosts the lead  in the first half with his nineteenth goal of the season but, generous to a fault Dendy gifted Crewe an equaliser as Justin Thornton but through his own net. The second half saw few chances  but two goals from Matty Morris  and Chris Shepherd  saw the home side through.

Curshaws    2              Boarhound    3

An excellent result for Boarhound who confounded their critics and defeated on of the favourites in their own back yard. Jamie Collins opened the scoring  in the first half for the visitors but Curshaws  Tim Lamb grabbed an equaliser to make it 1-1. Collins grabbed a second  before the break but once again it was Lamb who brought the scores level in the second half with an accomplished finish. Boarhound finished the stronger and it was left to striker Dan Frost to grab the headlines as his goal sent Boarhound through.

League

Poynton Kingfisher      0      Old Alts Vets    1

Kingfisher captain Tom Hopkin couldn’t hide  his disappointment after his side went down to a late Tony Dawson strike at Woodford Recreation ground. ‘We didn’t deserve to lose this one , the lads battled for ninety minutes  but unfortunately things didn’t go our way’

The Vets however will be delighted with all three points as it takes them within striking distance of the top of the table and ensures an exciting title run –in over the coming weeks.

Subsidiary Cup- group A

Old Alts   1      Poynton   5

Poynton hit five for the second week in a row and must hope Scott Bajic and John Cairns can stay fit and available for selection as between them they have scored nine of the ten goals. Having grabbed two each against Kingfisher , Cairns went one better , hitting a hat-trick against Alts who really are struggling at this level. The only consolation was a goal from Duncan Midmore who has also been on target for the Vets this season .
