By way of introduction, my name is Gareth Woods and I am the Police Inspector in charge of the Neighbourhood Policing Unit based at Macclesfield Police Station. I would like to start by expressing my thanks to MaccWeb Scoops for allowing me the opportunity to take part in my first blog.
Neighbourhood Policing is a national requirement for the 43 Police Forces across England and Wales to have in place by March 2008. In its simplest terms it is designed to provide a platform whereby every local resident becomes aware of the existence of their local team and more importantly how to make contact with them. My officers work in partnership with a host of other agencies in order to find long term, sustainable solutions to problems that have been ongoing for considerable amounts of time.
Cheshire Constabulary began this process back in March 2005 and as a result was one of the first of the 43 forces to introduce the necessary changes. We now have 18 Neighbourhood Policing Units across the County, each with its own e mail address and contact telephone number enabling anyone to leave a brief message about non emergency matters. This will result in contact with your local Police Constable or Police Community Support Officer either by e mail, telephone or in person.
The Macclesfield Borough has got three Neighbourhood Policing Units, mine based at Macclesfield Police Station and the other two based at Wilmslow and Knutsford Police Stations. Contact details for all the units can be found on the force website but the contact details for my unit are 0845 458 6371 or macclesfield.cat@cheshire.pnn.police.uk
Anyone wishing to find out further details about their local officers can feel free to make contact with us and we will provide the information you require as soon as we possibly can.
Modern day policing is incredibly complex so I will do my best over a series of updates to provide you all with some better understanding of how Cheshire Constabulary operates. I will be able to advise you about what we are responsible for delivering and more importantly what other agencies can do to assist with local problems and issues that may arise.
If there are any burning issues that anyone would like me to cover then please e mail me direct at the e mail address highlighted above.
Regards
