Macc & District Sunday Football League Review

Premier Division

Pack Horse took a large step in retaining their Premier Division title as they ran away with the second half against Prestbury at Mary Dendy Fields after Simon Gibbon’s first half opener. Martin Quigley , Harry Wheetman and  Matt Towns with two adding to Prestbury’s woes.

Albion Rovers had a bad day too as they went down 5-0 away to the League Cup Finalists AC Bollan. Andy Davies scored twice with Tim Hammond , Paul Cook and Tom Moores also on target.

At Congleton Road Oxford kept up their slim chance of pipping Pack Horse by beating Macc Boys Seniors in a bad tempered match but  they must win both their remaining fixtures and hope Pack lose both of theirs  to stand any chance . Carl Mc Currie scored twice for the visitors including one from the penalty spot with Ryan Fitter and Dan Frost grabbing one each as they ran out 4-1 winners. Gaz Hunt got a consolation for Macc Boys.

Rich Nelson bows out of Sunday football after twelve years with Boarhound

At Back Lane , Boarhound’s Rich Nelson played his last game after twelve years . It was an emotional day for the big centre half and his team mates did him proud as they finished their season off with a 3-2 win away at Vale.. Aaran Walker got the visitors off to a dream start scoring after barely twelve seconds but John Banks equalised. Goals from Ben Hamand and a second from Aaran Walker ensured a two goal cushion  before a rush of blood from makeshift centre half Gareth Gibbons ensured a nervy ending as Tom Jackson scored from the penalty spot in the dying minutes to make it 3-2.

FIRST DIVISION

In one of the closest First Division title races for years four teams are contesting top spot. In pole position are Queens who despite going behind to a Leon Eadsforth goal in the first half  replied with six of their own to remain top of the table on goal difference. Sam Davidson and Stuart Ainsworth both scored twice with Luke Murray and Carl Henshall completing the scoring.

Hot on their heels are Spinners who cannot stop winning despite a packed schedule. Sunday saw their third win in six days and having already made it to the league cup final they surely look destined for silverware this season. However they will have to do it without Paul Brown who, in his first game back from injury sadly dislocated his shoulder and will out for the rest of the season. Like Queens , Spinners came from a goal behind following Jermaine Leveridge’s opener. Dave Williams and Gareth Richards  doing the damage with Richards hitting a hat-trick  and Williams adding two more.

In the game of the day at Victoria Park Railway View edged rivals Hollins 2-1 with Mike Harrison scoring what must be the quickest goal of the season after only twelve seconds. 

Chris Coxen secured a vital win for Railway View

Successful spot kicks from Railways Chris Coxen and Hollins Jon Browning means Railway leapfrog Hollins and go level on points with Queens at the top of the table but they have played two more games.

Just below the battle for the top Macc Boys Juniors took on Nags Head and won with a penalty in the last minute with the sides level at 3-3. On target for Macc Boys were Scott Meszaros with two, Alex Tomlinson and James Wooten. For Nags, who have produced some of the most exciting matches in the First Division this season defeat was hard too take as their title challenge faded. Craig Millward and Lee Anderson with two were both on target.

Sporting Kerridge still remain winless this season but a 3-2 loss to Chester Road was no disgrace. Steven Marshall, Lee Capes and Dan Barber all on target.
