MDFA Sunday League Cup  -  2^nd Round

Vale      1      Macc Boys Juniors       2   (a.e.t.)

A Will Perry goal in extra time sent Macc Boys Juniors of the First Division  through to the League Cup Quarter Finals at the hands of Premier Division Vale. In a very even cup tie the sides couldn’t be separated over 90 minutes with Matt Ainsworth scoring for Vale and Elliot Bruce on target for the visitors. Macc Boys showed their superior fitness in the extra thirty minutes  and deserved  to go through.

FC Congleton    0     Queens      3

On their day FC Congleton can be a match for any team in the league, the trouble is you never can tell which side is going to turn up. Unfortunately for the hosts  this was not one of their better days and Queens took full advantage Mike Dingle gave them the lead in the first half  with Stuart Ainsworth scoring a crucial second from the penalty spot shortly before half time. Sam Walthall settled the tie in the second half  with his second goal of the season  making it 3-0. Queens keeper  Nick Haymen drew praise from his colleagues as he kept his second clean sheet of the season

Premier Division

Oxfford        6      Albion Rovers   3

Oxfford took full advantage of the postponement  of Pack horse’s game with AC Bollan to leap frog them and  go three points clear at the top of the table by thrashing Albion 6-3 at Mary Dendy Fields. It could have been a different story had Rovers managed to put away a first half penalty but there misfortune  only  succeeded in motivating Oxfford who scored three unanswered goals in the first forty five , two from Dan Frost and one from Carl McCurrie , his seventh of the season . Oxfford led  5-0 with goals from John Slater and Dave Billington  before Albion finally came to life  with Dave Barratt grabbing two and Jamie Collins another but it was too little too late as Liam Hadfield made it  six. A result that leaves Rovers  bottom of the league.

Yet another astonishing encounter between two of the best attacking sides in the division with unfortunately two of the leakiest defences.

The corresponding fixture had finished 8-5 and when the Seniors raced into a four goal lead inside  sixteen minutes with some scintillating football you feared for Boarhound. Gaz Hunt scored twice with Eddie Roberts in his first game back since breaking his ankle adding the second with Chris Coppenhall  hitting number three with a tremendous  header at the far post which looped agonisingly over Pete Slack’s despairing dive. Macc Boys could have been forgiven  for thinking the game was theirs but with the next three goals all scored by the visitors including two from Dec Fletcher , one from the penalty spot  and a well taken goal from  Andy Shard their hearts must have been in their mouths.

Fortunately up stepped Eddie Roberts to make the game safe as he made it 5-3 with three minutes remaining.

FIRST DIVISION

Nags Head    4     Poynton Legion    1

Nags moved into second place with a comfortable enough victory against an inform Poynton Legion. The home side raced into a 4-0 lead thanks to Neil Smith and  the twin strike force of Craig Poyser and Anthony Byrne who have now scored 34 goals between them this season in all competitions. The visitors  goal came courtesy of Simon Williams with twenty minutes remaining.

Two goals by Bobby Cash put the visitors 2-0 up by half time but the game descended into farce in the second half  with five players seeing red . Rick McGovern pulled one back for Railway..

Hollins       2      Spinners   2

Not the result either side were looking for in their chase for the title  but Spinners will feel more aggrieved as they let a two goal lead slip in the final  seven minutes against  a Hollins side  who were reduced to ten men in the second half.

Brigg Simpson and Dave Lovatt had given Spinners the lead before Gaz Burns and then Jon Browning grabbed the leaders a valuable point with a penalty.

Chester Road Tavern   1   Chilli Banana   2

Paul Stevenson produced a man of the match performance for Chilli as they notched their fourth league win of the season against fellow strugglers Chester Road. Mike Meszaros had given Chilli the lead with his fourteenth goal of the season from the penalty spot  but a Dan Barber header put the hosts back in contention with the equaliser before half time. In an even second half it was left to Paul Stevenson to make his mark popping up with the winner.

Tythy Juniors     2       Blueberry     3

Tythy Juniors charge up the table was brought to a halt as they lost narrowly to Blueberry who have been in freefall of late . Jermaine Leveridge made it sixteen in all competitions with two for the visitors and Ben Atkins added a third . For a disappointed Tythy side who felt they deserved more from the game  the goals came from Lewis Evans and Lee McIntyre.
