Despite the atrocious ground conditions four Second Round ties managed to survive and it was the home teams who won all four matches.

On paper this looked an intriguing tie with both teams flying high in their respective divisions but it was Prestbury ,from the Premier Division who proved much the stronger of the two running out winners with something to spare after scoring five second half goals . Emlyn Quartey had given them an early first half lead and there were further goals from Nicky Scott who hit a hat-trick , John Whitehead with two and one from Chris Connors.

Spinners quickly overcame the disappointment of last weeks defeat to Railway View in the league by securing a morale boosting victory against a strong Farmers side . It was stalemate at half time with neither side able to produce any goal scoring opportunities but it took less than a minute of the second half for the hosts to take the lead and spark the tie into life .

Brigg Simpson floated a delightful free kick into the penalty area and centre half Andy Forbes , with the faintest of touches ,managed to guide the ball wide of the Farmers’s keeper and into the net. Midway through the half Simpson and Forbes teamed up again to make it 2-0. It was a carbon copy of the first goal . Simpson taking a free kick just inside the Farmers half and Forbes again rose unchallenged to head home. Dave Grindey made it 3-0 from the penalty spot with quarter of an hour remaining and right on the final whistle Jeff Ravenscroft tapped home number four from two yards after great work from Nathan Hulley.

Farmers ‘ Alex Marsh looked the most likely of any of their players to create an opening but two often his good approach play came to a sticky end as the ball came to a standstill in the mud on the edge of Spinners penalty area. In fact such was the Spinners dominance in the second half that goalkeeper Phil Ravenscoft left the field of play at the end of the game with out a fleck of mud on his bright green jersey, a point not missed by his mud splattered colleagues!!

An exciting game at Mary Dendy Fields ended in a penalty shoot out after the teams couldn’t be separated after 120 minutes of football. Despite falling behind to a Chris Smallman effort Oxfford stormed back with superb strikes from Dan Frost and Liam Hadfield to end the half 3-1 ahead and were probably hoping they would be able to take their foot off the gas in the second half. Juniors however have developed a real fighting spirit this season and goals from Alex Tomlinson and Callum Loftus took the tie into extra time. With no further goals the tie went to penalties and with Oxfford scoring all five it was down to the last penalty - heart break for the visitors though as the ball went wide of Oxfford’s stand in goal keeper Alex Shatwell but also wide of the post.
Valiant 7 Boarhound 3
Valiant from the Leek Sunday League Premier Division proved too strong for Boarhound at the Birchall Playing Fields as for the second home game in a row they put seven past the visiting team. Tony Hulse and Ricky Mallon both scored hat-tricks with Lee McNicholas adding a seventh. For Boarhound goals came from Dec Fletcher , a Ben Hamand penalty and Chris Taylor.
