Last year’s Learning Zone students gathered at an awards ceremony recently to celebrate their outstanding achievements.

117 full-time students from across Macclesfield College, the Learning Zone Sixth Form College (LZ6) and the European Centre for Aerospace Training (ECAT) were nominated by their tutors as either ‘Student of the Year’ or ‘High Achievers’.

Just a few of the students who were recognised, with Wendy Wright (centre left) and Tina Cullen (centre right).

During the ceremony Wendy Wright, Principal of Macclesfield College, read a short piece about each of the students to highlight their outstanding efforts and academic excellence, and the students received certificates and engraved pens to mark the occasion.

The audience of parents, tutors and students were inspired by stories of students who had overcome illness, learning difficulties or language barriers to succeed in their studies. Others were praised for their inspirational thirst for learning, involvement in extra-curricular activities and selfless charity involvement.

They also listened to guest speaker Tina Cullen, England Hockey Champion and player-coach with over 300 English Premier League goals to her name, as she shared the things that motivate her and drive her to succeed.

Wendy commented: ‘It was a very proud night for all involved. It is fantastic to be able to recognise the excellent results of our students, both in terms of their grades and their personal commitment and sheer hard work.’
