Macclesfield & District Sunday League

It was a case of déjà –vue on Sunday  as the much awaited start to the  Macclesfield and District  Sunday League season  was disrupted for the second year in succession  by  the weather . Only two games went ahead.

Premier League

Prestbury Club    4      Brewers        2

Prestbury got off to the perfect start as they secured all three points against a an understrength Brewers at Bonis Hall Lane. Both teams had the ball in the net before  Dave Woodward gave Prestbury the lead in the first half but Brewers struck back with two of their own, both scored by Ashley Flood.

Chris Cox tied the game at 2-2 just before half time.

Having lost a player at half time and with no replacements available,Brewers were facing an uphill struggle  having to play the whole of the second half with ten players but  they battled hard . Prestbury though finished the stronger with Craig Scott and substitute Carl Lampety both finding the net in the second half.

First Division

Chilli Banana      4         Poynton       5

At Kerridge Cricket Club  Poynton were simply too hot for new boys Chilli Banana as they raced into a 3-0 lead inside twenty minutes. Many teams would have folded but there’s a great team spirit amongst the Chilli lads  and they fought back to 3-2  with the experienced Mike Mezaros a real driving force in midfield scoring twice himself from distance.

 In a see- saw first half which saw Chilli trailing by the odd goal in seven, the second half had much to live up to but the hosts took full advantage of their infamous slope and outscored their visitors by two goals to one, Jack Hoyle and Graham Boultbee adding to Mezaros’s brace for Chilli. On the score sheet for Poynton were Lee Stubbs and Leon Eadsforth with two apiece and Greg Willis.
