The Win A Cheshire Cottage Competition has taken a little time to gain momentum and, whilst we’re welcoming lots and lots of fantastic entries from hopeful contenders on a daily basis, we’ve not yet met our target of 14,000 entries.
We really, really want to be able to award someone the keys to this fantastic cottage so we’ve taken up our option* to extend the competition, initially for another 3 months.
The new closing date is the 4th November 2009 BUT this doesn’t mean that you have another 3 months to pen your 25-word tiebreaker!
It is amazing what twenty quid can get you; a take away, a round of drinks, two tickets and a tub of popcorn at the local cinema, a gorgeous stone cottage in the idyllic Cheshire village of Kerridge .
And that s exactly what someone can get for £20 if they are the lucky winner of a new recession busting online competition at winacheshirecottage.com.
Less than 14,000 tickets are available making the odds of winning the property much more appealing than the national lottery (1 in 14,000 rather than 14 million) and entrants can buy as many goes as they like to increase their chances of winning.
But you ll have to be fast, the competition has already attracted the attention of the first time buyers market with a page dedicated to it on Facebook and a viral email doing the rounds.
The Cottage at the centre of the competition is a pretty 200-year-old stone built mid terrace set in the picturesque conservation area of Kerridge near Bollington. The Cottage offers striking views over pasture and woodland.
Inside, 10 Redway has been extensively refurbished with many of the Cottage s original features restored including traditional cast iron radiators. The lounge offers a wood burning stove, exposed chimneybreast and floorboards and the kitchen has been tastefully finished with beech fitted units, slate floors and quality integrated appliances.
The original Kerridge stone staircase leads from the kitchen to a landing area with exposed stonewalls and from which radiates a substantial double bedroom and large bathroom with freestanding roll top, ball and claw bath and separate walk-in shower. Both the bedroom and bathroom have the original exposed floorboards. There is a loft room/study with laminate flooring and fitted cupboards.
10 Redway is tastefully furnished throughout in a country cottage style. If selected by an independent panel of judges, the lucky winner will win the house lock, stock and barrel simply by paying the entry fee, correctly answering questions about the local area and submitting a tiebreaker.
They ll also get the opportunity to donate a percentage of the competition s total takings to a charity of their choice.
The competition has been established by Cheshire based lawyer Joanne Flitcroft who decided to find a more novel approach to selling her home rather than become another victim of the stagnant property market.
The opportunity to raise funds for a charitable cause was also appealing; Joanne has previously driven from London to Cameroon for charity with five people crammed in a 1.1l Fiesta and plans to undertake a similar trip from Nepal to India in an automated rickshaw later this year.
Says Joanne, The competition has the potential to change someone s life. For a first time buyer its that all important first step on the property ladder, for an existing home owner it s a holiday home, a rental property, a chance to sell and put the cash to another project or a nest egg for later life. What a fantastic opportunity!
Some may think this is too good to be true but the reality is that at the end of this competition someone will be handed the deeds and keys to 10 Redway and it will be theirs to do what they like with. There will be no stamp duty or fees to pay. They ll also get to donate money to their favourite charity.
The competition is being adjudicated by Walker Morris Solicitors in association with Bollington and Prestbury based Holmes-Naden Estate Agents.
Says Edward Naden, 10 Redway is a very desirable property and the perfect first home; Kerridge is a very popular spot with first time buyers and young professionals. As a rental property it has huge appeal and could command a rent in the region of £550 per month.
The competition will run until 4th August 2009 or until all 14,000 tickets have been sold.
