Educators and Employers Strengthen Links

Macclesfield College has been strengthening its links with local employers recently at a complementary lunch in the on-site Silk Room Restaurant.

The event was held to invite local businesses to become Macclesfield Learning Zone Associate Employers and work with the College to shape the workforce of tomorrow.

As an Associate Employer, businesses pledge to provide two Associate Events per year which could include student and staff placements; guest speakers; student mentoring; access to company facilities and participation in employer groups.  The Associate Events are aimed at providing enrichment to students across the curriculums from younger students through to adults in Higher Education.

In return Associate Employers enjoy reduced price room hire and course fees, access to a management qualification, discount vouchers for the Silk Room Restaurant and Pure Hair and Beauty Salon, recruitment opportunities and networking possibilities with like-minded employers.

Recent Associate Employers include Macclesfield Borough Council, HM Prison Styal and Charles Mason Associates.

In the last three years Macclesfield College has worked closely with over 300 local employers to train and upskill their staff. Jonathan Disley, Deputy Head of the Learning Zone’s Sixth Form College, says:

‘There has never been a better time for employers to increase their involvement with Macclesfield College. The new Diploma qualifications that were introduced this year for 14-19 year olds offer exciting opportunities for employers to help young people gain knowledge and experience through practical, work-related learning. Employers are able to provide talks, resources and actual business problems for students to work on.’
