Poynton Nomads have made the first decisive in roads into the  dominance of the top two clubs by inflicting the third defeat of the season on Club AZ taking them within four points of the hosts with two games in hand. Nomads have come on in leaps and bounds since they uncovered strikers Liam Gray and Steve Rhoades who are fast becoming a potent strike force.

   Referee  Dave Friedlander took charge of two excellent footballing sides  with Nomads in the ascendancy in the first period taking a decisive  two goal advantage. With the second half seeing three goals a piece, it was the visitors who went home with all three points. Lee Mannion scored his eighth goal of the season for AZ with Gareth Gibbons and an own goal completing their scoring. For Nomads Liam Gray scored twice and there were further goals from Steve Rhoades , Will Benn and Tom Gaskell.

High Lane got a morale boosting victory against Poynton who struggled without seven key players . Despite Chris Bell’s goal and plenty of pressure on the home goal with goalkeeper  Nick Winstanley in fine form  Poynton couldn’t convert their pressure into goals. High Lane took full advantage of the conditions and rode their luck, with the lively Jake Getcheffvsky, their leading scoring , grabbing two, taking his tally to five for the season. Dave Wilde secured the points  hitting number three.

Mary Dendy too turned the form book upside down  with an excellent victory away at Sandringham Road against Juno. Dendy’s team looked more balanced than in previous weeks and troubled their hosts early on with balls over the top of their defence. On a heavy, unpredictable pitch Matt Morris gave Dendy the lead inside five minutes and his second on thirty eight minutes  doubled the visitors advantage . It was a goal  Juno  really ought not to conceded as they had three chances to clear  the ball but each time they managed to give possession  back to Morris who gratefully poked the ball home. Juno reduced the arrears before half time  when Drew Lee calmly lifted the ball over Leon  White. The second half belonged to Juno as they piled forward in search of the equaliser. It duly came on 65 minutes  when young Alex Fawcett rose to bundle the ball over the line maradonaesque  with his hands.  It was a slice of luck Juno deserved but despite their pressure it was Dendy who broke clear to make it 2-3  with the fast improving Chris Hadfield delighted with his contribution scoring his second goal of the season. The action wasn’t finished though  as in stoppage time at the end of 90 minutes  Juno had the perfect chance to earn themselves a point their performance merited from the penalty spot but a poor spot kick was easily saved by debutant keeper Leon White.

Old Alts Vets showed true grit as they came from two goals down to take a point at home to  Boarhound who really must be taking all three points from as many games as possible if they are to enter the title race . Andy Foote and Ryan Stewart  gave the visitors the lead but Nick Graham and Andy Graham secured a point for the Vets.

In the Alts derby game the Youth came out victorious winning two goals  to nil. Tom Porter and Andy Masey both on target.

Wilmslow remain on top and the only unbeaten side in the ECL  after a high scoring game at Woodford Rec against Poynton Kings .  There will not be many matches where the home side scores four times and ends up taking nothing from the game – this however was one. There is no doubt Wilmslow can score goals but this result should give some of the other teams hope  that  they can also concede a few!!  Scorers for Kings – Scott Wright with two , Ian Jefferson and an og. For Wilmslow, Tom Gill hit four, Nick Russell two, Mike Harrison and Andy Hume.
