Work is underway on an £85,000 scheme to create a new Macclesfield play area.
Macclesfield Borough Council and Groundwork Cheshire will transform a previously empty and under-used stretch of land adjacent to a multi-use games area at Banbury Close, Hurdsfield, into a play facility for children aged up to 13.
The play area has been designed by local children with help from the Hurdsfield Young Providers Forum. Funding for the play area project has come from Macclesfield Borough Council’s Big Lottery Fund Children’s Play Initiative (£70,087), Waste Recycling Group Limited, administered by WREN (£13,150), AstraZeneca (£1,450) and Groundwork Cheshire (£2,000). The project will take around eight weeks to build.
Councillor Andrew Knowles, Macclesfield Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Community and Wellbeing, said: “Our vision is for high-quality play facilities across the Borough and the Lottery grant awarded last year provided much-needed funds for improving play areas. I also welcome the support of the other funders and am particularly pleased at the input from the Hurdsfield community.”
Katherine Stanier, Project Manager, Groundwork Cheshire, said: “The partnership has worked hard to raise the money to complete this project, and it is great to see work about to start. We would like to thank the local community for their effort and patience with this project as piece by piece it becomes a reality.”
