Wilmslow Lacrosse still in the hunt
WILMSLOW kept their Premier Division title challenge on track at the weekend, but the Styal Road outfit missed out on their second title of the season.
The defending Men's North of England League champions impressed with a 15-10 victory away to Manchester Waconians on Saturday.
But on Sunday the club slipped to an agonising 12-11 defeat to Stockport, their arch-rivals, in this season's Referee's Trophy final.
Ahead 9-7 going into the final quarter Wilmslow, winners of this season's inaugural European Lacrosse Federation Champions Cup, were favourites to clinch their second honours of the season.
However, their opponents bravely fought back to win the final quarter 4-2 and force sudden-death.
And it was a goal from Charlie Cox which secured victory in a dramatic finish in this year's final.
Jon Mountney top-scored with a hat-trick for Wilmslow, while James Perrin, Mike Jordan and Mark Reynolds all bagged braces.
Chris Mountney and Dan Green were also on target, while Mike Jordan impressed by winning 13 of the 20 face-offs he contested.
On Saturday Perrin led the way to victory over Wacs with five goals and three assists, while Chris Mountney netted a hat-trick and provided five assists.
Reynolds and Jon Mountney scored doubles, while Tommy Foster, Stuart Craig and Green scored the rest of the goals.
Jordan won 15 of 22 face-offs as the visitors won the opening quarter 4-3, whitewashed their opponents 6-0 in the second quarter and never looked back.
The third quarter was shared 4-4 and Wacs won the final quarter 3-1, but by then the damage had been done.
