The match of the day took place at Congleton Road as Boarhound , fourth at the start of play , took on second placed Club AZ  who were yet to drop a point this season. The result , a win to Boarhound wasn’t  particularly a surprise  but the manner of their victory most definitely was! Four goals in the first half , two from the magnificent Andy Foote, an own goal and a customary Jamie Collin’s strike  gave  Boarhound an unassailable lead which they vigourously defended in the second half in driving rain as Club AZ fought to get back in the game .
Boarhound's centre half Dave Clowes

Ryan Fitter and Dave Clowes were outstanding in defence as they shut out AZ   and drew special praise from manager Maurice Sutton but  he was absolutely delighted with the commitment of his team who seemed much more at ease in the harsh weather conditions. This win for Boarhound sees them leapfrog Club AZ into second place on goal difference as the race for the title continues to hot up.

At Upcast Lane Wilmslow Sports opened up a four point gap at the top of the table as they thumped Old Alts 7-0 . Leading 1-0 at half time they cut loose in the second half scoring six times without reply. The league’s top scorer Nick Russell scored a hat-trick and centre half  James Ingham weighed in with two and was only denied a third in the dying seconds  by stand –in referee and Wilmslow’s club secretary,  Ant Cummings who ruled he had strayed offside. Midfield playmaker Jonny Devine took his tally to seven for the season, scoring twice.

Old Alts Vets drew 3-3 for the second week in a row but this time it was their opponents  Old Alts Youth who had to come from behind  to snatch a point in the derby at Crossford Bridge . The Vets must have thought they were heading for their first win of the season as they led 3-0 with twenty minutes remaining thanks to two goals from leading scorer Niall Griffin and Mark Fallon’s first of the season but  James Pickering, Andrew Masey and Michael Bange had  other ideas!

Juno United continued their resurgence after a comfortable 5-1  victory  against High Lane on a soggy pitch at Sandringham Road. Despite the scoreline , the visitors had the  better of the opening exchanges with Tim Shea causing problems with his pace. Having forced   Juno keeper Rich Lane into a  early save , it was  Shea’s cross that led to the opening goal on ten minutes ,Rob Graydon  heading home his first of the season.  Juno came back though , midfielder Tom Weedal equalising on twenty minutes  and it was the home side who continued to press  scoring  twice more through leading marksman Darren Wilson, the first a spectacular effort from 15 yards, the second  a tap in from six yards after  great work down the left from Rob Jenkins. The second half again saw the visitors start brightly but again  they failed to take advantage of their possession, with their   play  continually breaking down in the final third of the field. Juno, on the other hand  have an inform striker  in Darren Wilson who is becoming a really potent threat  in the ECL and it was he who made the difference scoring twice  more in the final fifteen minutes  to take his tally to nine for the season .

Draw specialists Poynton drew 3-3 with Old Alts Vets last week , this week like the  Vets , they let a three goal lead slip against rivals Poynton Nomads  to take  a point when perhaps their performance deserved  all three. Referee  Graham Wright took charge of an amazing game at Bollington Recreation.

Having been without top scorer John Cairns  for the last three games  Poynton could have  been excused for a lack of goals .  Strangely,  this  hasn’t happened , unfortunately, however  they do seem to have a problem conceding goals  themselves.  First half  goals from George Chater-Clarke, Steven Hindle and Chris Oake  gave the visitors a three goal lead at the interval but  Nomads stormed back in the second half coming back to level the game at 3-3 through   Alan Hay, a superb volley from Ben Aimeson and Tom Gaskell’s seventh goal of the season.  With four minutes remaining  Chris Oake thought he’d scored the winner for the visitors  but with seconds remaining  up popped  Mark Toomey to ruin the party.
