Crack us a smile Macclesfield!

Sep 6, 2008

Flash those pearly whites Macclesfield, you're officially the fifth happiest place in the United Kingdom!

The survey that has given us this result has been going on for 17 years, and towns are ranked according to how happy the residents living there are with their town. Macclesfield came 5th out of 273 areas across the UK - a real achievement!

Looking at all the events and activities we see on Maccweb Scoops every week, it isn't a shock that people love living here, there is a real community feel that seems to sweep across the town and the borough.

Alongside all the fun everyone seems to be having, the town has great schools, commuter links to Manchester and London, and is surrounded by some of the most beautiful countryside the UK has to offer.

Furthermore, there are some official statistics which may indicate other reasons Maccites are so smiley! Unemployment (in December 2007) was only 1.23 per cent per 1,865 of the population. The gross weekly pay (in 2007) per residence was £559.90 against a North West average of £432.70. And to top it all off, average life expectancy in December 2006 was 78.8 years for males and 82.5 years for females.

So despite all the talk of the credit crunch we keep hearing, keep smiling Macclesfield, because you've got every reason to feel happy with life!
