The three primary schools that are at risk of being axed are Ash Grove, St Barnabas and St Edwards -three vital schools in the education of young Macclesfield children. In order to save their schools, each one must present a case during consultations that proves they are worth being saved. The consultations will run from Friday 5th - October 10th, meaning it's going to be a gruelling month for the determined schools.
The plans seem to indicate that Ash Grove is the most likely to face closure, and that St Edwards and St Barnabas schools may join together to make one larger primary education site. However, none are truly free from the risk of being closed completely.
The TLC project - that's Transforming Learning Communities - have been given the job of reducing the surplus spaces in schools, and as part of this have been asking residents to provide their thoughts on the matter. If this issue is close to your - or your community's - heart, then send your comments to us and we will post them on Maccweb.
The most important thing here is that the three schools in question do not give up the fight! St. Johns school in Bollington successfully avoided closure, and with the resilience and spirit of the parents, teachers, pupils and community leaders who are working on these 'Save our School' campaigns we will hopefully see this achievement repeated.
