A Sutton student has shown just how important A-levels are if you are determined to get onto the university course of your choice.
This time last year Ella Pimblett was completely devastated after getting an A grade in Biology but only B grades in Maths and Chemistry. She needed straight A grades to realise her dream of doing Veterinary Science at university and eventually becoming a vet.
Rather than give up and accept a second choice university course, she enrolled at Abbey College in central Manchester to retake Biology and Chemistry A-levels in a year. Ella featured on MaccWeb Scoops 8 months ago when the Royal Veterinary College did its only road-show in the North West at the college.
She has now achieved A grades in both and, despite the attraction of the Royal Veterinary College, has decided to take Veterinary Science at one of the top universities for this degree, the University of Bristol.
Ella says: “Everything I did last year was geared to getting into veterinary science and when I didn’t quite get the grades, my whole world collapsed. But I was determined to succeed. You can only re-sit A Levels at a few places and I chose Abbey College. Now a year later I’ve achieved the grades I need and my life is completely back on track – I’m so happy”.
