St Christopher's - the Parish Church of Pott Shrigley, has become widely known as a lovely place for weddings.
It is indeed, a charming building in a beautiful rural setting, but prospective, (and prospecting) engaged couples should be aware that it is much more than that. St Christopher's is a house of God with a large congregation of regular worshippers, and a place of prayer and solace for people in need of solace or spiritual renewal.
There is a 'buzz' inside the building before and after the 10.45 service each Sunday which could mislead casual visitors into thinking they have happened on a lively social occasion, or even a sort of agency where appointments are made and social business is transacted.
Bridal couples are indeed welcome to St Christopher's, but may we impress them that the only reason for a Church wedding is not that it should simply be a delightful setting for that stunning dress and smart hired suit, but that the promises are made in the presence of God, so that their marriage will be blessed with happiness, longevity and strength.
