Blueprint to Improve Quality of Life for Cheshire Residents

Cheshire County Council News Release
Jul 17, 2008

A blueprint aimed at improving the lives of Cheshire residents has been approved by the government.

The Local Area Agreement (LAA) sets out a  range of priorities- spanning three years - which are aimed at improving public services and quality of life in the county.

Led by Cheshire County Council, it has been developed by the Communities of Cheshire Partnership which also includes the six district councils, Police, NHS Primary Care Trusts, the Fire and Rescue Service and voluntary and community organisations.

The priorities include reducing the number of deaths or seriously injuries in traffic accidents on our roads, maintaining Cheshire's roads and improving the level of supported provided for the vulnerable and their carers.

Crime is a particular focus of the agreement, which concentrates on issues such as dealing with local concerns about anti-social behaviour and substance misuse by young people.

The agreement also sets out education targets for achievement at Key Stages 1-4.

Other priorities include focusing on issues such as affordable housing, new business development and participation in sport and active recreation.

The LAA for Cheshire has now been agreed between central Government and the County Council, together with other key partners.

Community and Communications Executive Member Nora Dolphin said: “We are delighted our Local Area Agreement has received Ministerial approval.

“Agreeing local priorities means all partners can work together effectively to focus on what is important to local residents and improve their quality of life.”
