New Prices For Meals In Cheshire Schools

Cheshire County Council News Release
Jul 7, 2008

A tasty, nutritious two course meal in Cheshire’s primary schools goes up by ten pence to £1.90 in September.

Pupils eating a two course meal with larger portions and a wide range of menus in high schools will be charged £2.05.

The first course is a home cooked meal accompanied by unlimited vegetables and salad and for a second course either a traditional pudding or fruit and yoghurt. All meals come with a choice of fresh fruit juice or semi-skimmed milk.

“We all know how food and fuel costs continue to rise which makes it inevitable that the price of a school meal will also increase” said Executive Member for Children’s Services David Rowlands.

“However CBS Catering works hard to keep costs down.

“Cheshire has always charged the same price for meals in secondary schools as for primary school meals but this is changing because portions are larger and the range of food in school cash cafeterias is wider.

“CBS Catering devises menus that meet the Government’s nutritional guidelines for food in schools and all the food purchased comes from reputable suppliers.

“We aim to source local food and we are currently exploring options for using even more local produce in our menus.”
