| Injury survivors Georgina Hurst and Michael Buckley presenting the Smart Risk Heroes event at High Schools |
Students from four High Schools across Cheshire have taken part in a special road safety event which involved a large scale multi-image sound and light show that challenged the risks they take in their daily lives.
The SMARTRISK Heroes event shows what ‘smart risks’ to take and involved a live presentation by two injury survivors who spoke candidly about how injury had changed their life.
“The whole event was geared for young people who tend to think that they’re invincible or unstoppable” said Highways and Transportation Executive Member Eveleigh Moore-Dutton.
”Rather than presenting a list of negative messages, SMARTRISK Heroes speaks to students in their own language and offers strategies that are based on the real world and where risk is part of living.”
Added Sarah Collins, Senior Road Safety Officer: “The Heroes show has been specifically designed to appeal to young people in order for them to listen to our messages.
“This is achieved through a combination of a DVD presentation with fast moving images with music that makes the event reminiscent of a music video.”
The SMARTRISK event has been staged at Upton-by-Chester High School, Fallibroome High School, Macclesfield, All Hallows Catholic High School, Macclesfield and Eaton Bank School, Congleton.
