Steep Salary for Council Top Dog

Jun 7, 2008

The reported figure is a staggering £173,000 per annum - just £16,000 less than Gordon Brown, the country's PM! This huge wage has got a critical response, with many believing it is just too much for one person to be earning.

The wage is paid out of council tax receipts, and is nearly 70% higher than the current head of the Macclesfield Borough Council is earning now, albeit that the new role covers a lot more of Cheshire. Those who have set this wage however argue that it reflects the current economical market and attracts high fliers and big achievers. Compared to the salary of a soldier entering the armed forces though - approximately £14,000 - the wage is uncomprehendable to many.

What do you think? Does the challenging position justify such a large figure of money or is this fat cat salary unfair? Let us know!
