A new, 68-bed hotel will be built on Waters Green, which should spruce up the historic area of the town centre nicely!
Castle House - opposite the railway station - is 104 years old, and is about to become a brand new travel lodge for the town centre, which, as well as its 68 bedrooms will also have 10,000 square feet of office space.
The hotel will be ideal for visitors to the town, as it is right near the railway station, and furthermore will bring between 50-100 job vacancies to the area.
The build will start this July and finish next summer, and on top of developing the travel lodge the Silk Road Pedestrian Underpass will also be re-done, with lights and CCTV, making the walkway more appealing and safe to its users. This will cost approximately £35,000.
In total, the developers will spend approximately £70,000 brightening up the surrounding area to make sure their new hotel sits in the nicest surroundings.
In general, the project has been welcomed with open arms, as the area is in need of a facelift and this will provide vital funds. The only concern for those living and working in the area is car-parking space, which is already fairly hard to come by in this busy area of town.
