Shout for Lulu at Macclesfield's Party

Macclesfield Summer Party Promises a Classic for a Tenner!

Shout for Lulu at Macclesfield's Great Summer Party

It really is something to shout about – Lulu and the Magic of Motown will cost party-goers in Macclesfield just £10 for a summer night of great music!

Tickets have gone on sale for the start of the big party weekend organised by Macclesfield Borough Council, which also includes the 25th anniversary of the Family Fun Day.

Thousands of concert-lovers will be flocking to West Park, Macclesfield, to catch Lulu as the headline act of Party in the Park on Saturday 16 August. Lulu, who has been a household name since the sixties, with appearances on Top of the Pops in every decade since. The Glaswegian, who received an OBE in 2000,  has had hits such as “Shout”, “Relight My Fire” with Take That, and came joint first in the European Song Contest with the classic “Boom Bang-a-Bang”.

The concert will open with The Magic of Motown, celebrating the world-famous Tamla Motown record label with a show packing in more number one hits than any other show. A brand-new production for 2008 stars five-piece male harmonies, three-part female vocals, plus the seven-piece Magic of Motown Band.

This classic stage show honours Tamla legends that brought the world to its dancing feet, including the Temptations, Diana Ross and the Supremes, the Four Tops, Marvin Gaye, Martha Reeves, Smokey Robinson, Mary Wells, Stevie Wonder and many more.

"In the past I have brought in many of Motown’s biggest stars - The Temptations and the Four Tops included - for concerts in the UK," says show producer Michael Taylor. "Sadly, many of the original artists are no longer with us. You can have "original" bands that don’t include a single member of the original line-up. The Magic of Motown recreates that practically indefinable Motown sound with a production that’s the perfect night out; whether you’re young, young at heart, or old enough to know better."

Event Organiser Bill North says: “Lulu is a great draw for us in a year in which she celebrates her 60th birthday. She’ll be providing us with a 90-minute glitzy show, following the spectacle of the Magic of Motown. Tickets for Lulu normally cost more than double our charge, but thanks to our sponsors, we can bring our costs down to everyone’s budget. There’s such a great atmosphere for Party in the Park.”

The big party weekend is supported by Gradus,  AstraZeneca, Ciba Specialty Chemicals, The Emerson Group, SAS Daniels Solicitors, Arco Ltd, Lookers, Travis Perkins, Macclesfield Express and Silk FM 106.9.

Details about the free Family Fun Day, which will include transforming part of West Park into the seaside, will be unveiled soon.

Tickets are on sale at Macclesfield Town Hall – 01625 504114. They can also be bought from the following ticket agents:  ticketline.co.uk (0871 4244444), quaytickets.com (0870 0666845), whatsontickets.com (0871 2240036).
