Planning Proposals Cause Upset For Birtles Road Residents

Feb 8, 2008

Many attended a meeting at Macclesfield Leisure Centre on 1st February to express their concerns with the plan to build 46 new affordable homes on a rural area of Birtles Road.

A similar meeting held a fortnight ago revealed similar views from residents who are concerned about the build. As of yet there have been no applications submitted to Macclesfield Council but it is expected that there will be one later this month.

Residents main concerns are that if this new estate is developed the nature and atmosphere of the area will be lost. Futhermore, there are worries about the potential of narrowing the road and the influx of cars on a road that is known for its sharp bends.

As of yet, nothing is certain, so for the current residents of Birtles Road it is simply a waiting game. For many other locals however, the move may well be supported, as housing in Macclesfield is hard to come by and pricey - new, affordable housing may be the ticket onto the property ladder many have been wanting.
