Sutton W I

We had a fantastic day leading W I members from all over Cheshire on a walk round the hills of Langley and Sutton. There were a couple of panics amongst our leaders when we were not sure of the way, due to the grass having grown over the path since our last recce and another field ploughed, which completely changed the appearance! A bit embarrassing with 16 W I ladies in tow. We managed though, to find our way back  to Langley Chapel for a well-earned cream tea and much praise from our oblivious guests. Basket

On 26 June we went to Manchester Airport to board antour Concord G-BOAC, the flagship of the fleet. On board we were seated in the celebrity seats and Mrs Warrington became a bottom-buddy with Prince Philip (think he should be informed). Michael Jackson always paid for two seats and spent the whole flight from head to toe under a blanket. Best place for him some might say.

The morning of our July meeting brought panic attacks when we received a call from our speaker saying, that due to illness, she would be unable to speak that evening. After a few phone calls and hot flushes, we were able to secure the services of Moira Furmage from Langley, bless her trekking socks, who told us about her trip to Nepal and Everest base camp. Yak poop was used as fuel for heating and cooking and the only shower she had in 3 weeks was in a cold tin shed and poured through a large colander. Lovely.  Moira has also been involved with a trekking team, raising over £34,000 for Cancer Research and East Cheshire Hospice. She returned home to cook dinner for some friends she was expecting later. A Wonder Woman, what an inspiration -  Shutlingsloe,  here we come!

Next month we are having a joint meeting at Sutton with Wildboarclough W I, our speaker that night, we sincerely hope, will be Kay Bashford, who will be bringing a selection of hats through the ages and no doubt letting us try them on. September brings a wine tasting evening hosted by Waitrose, there will also be some cheese and bread to go with it.

Members with restricted time or elderly members who are now less active than they used to be can enjoy the monthly meetings – the good speakers and the friendly chat over tea afterwards without getting involved with anything else. For those with more time there are theatre trips, days out, darts, luncheon club, bowls and walks, not the mention the hours of fun you can have doing handicrafts and produce etc for the shows! If you get involved in your WI you are certainly never lonely and you are guaranteed lots of laughter. We meet in a happy atmosphere and we can feel assured of the continuing good fellowship that Sutton WI offers.
