Sutton W I
Sutton W I gained 9 new members this year 5 of whom were voted onto the committee at the AGM in November. 5 long serving members of a 12 strong committee stood down, including Angela Hopper the President. She will be spending 3 months in Australia early next year with her daughter, who is expecting her first child in January. We all thanked her for her time, dedication and leadership over the last 2 years, she will certainly be a hard act to follow. The next Madam President who was voted to follow this hard act, is me!
After all the business of the AGM the rest of the evening was spent playing 3 games of BINGO. Ex Madam President made a superb caller with all the appropriate (and inappropriate) Bingo calls. I wouldn’t say that it flowed along, especially when 19 was called as 61, even with the glasses on. Angela was ably assisted by Heather Potts our Social Secretary, who has this year arranged an amazing number of trips to theatres, including Evita and Calendar Girls this month, all a great success. A rather splendid engraved gavel was presented to Sutton W I by Beryl Shatwell who has been a member 44 years. We shall have to see if it does its intended job in bringing 69 ladies to order when they are in full flow.
Our Darts Team got off to a good start winning 2 matches against Rainow
W I, which has really boosted our confidence. We have been practicing every week at the Church House and have made some progress, hitting the board more often than not! Cotton Traders are donating a set of team polo shirts (chosen colour, apple green after much discussion) so we will at least look the part.
