Since our earlier news on St Christopher's as a charming wedding location, we now seem to be blossoming into a babies' church! This may sound rather sudden, but in fact, has been going on over the years, in spite of the lack of children's facilities in the old building. It is lovely to see the mums and dads bringing their little ones to all the 10.45 Sunday morning services. (How do they do it?) Restless babies and toddlers can retreat to the creche in the tower vestry, where parents can still hear the service and excellent sermons over the speaker system. Afterwards, there is a general baby admiration session and hubbub, (where did that word come from?) with everyone very reluctant to leave, as they enjoy their coffee, compliments and companionship. School-age children take part in fun activities acroos at the village hall/school, under expert and dedicated care, then proudly show off their efforts when they return at the end of the service. It's a shame there aren't more 5 - 10-year olds attending, (yet!) the rewards are considerable - both earthly and hreavenly.
Now - Homework! Can anyone give us any help in encouraging young people from 11 years old to continue their church connection in a youth group? We have a small but enthusiastic nucleus which would like to attract others, but some of the leaders now have those babies to care for, and taking up their time and energy. If any reader is thinking of going into teaching or other work with young people, here is the ideal way to connect and discover what it's like!
Do come along and get to know us.
