19th February 2012 - League Cup Quarter Finals and Subsidiary League Games

Broken Cross just cannot cope with Pack Horse- having lost 7-2 in their previous outing in the league they faired no better in the Quarter Finals of the League Cup going down 7-0 to Brian Aults side. Goals from Nick Stone , Alex Baird  and Harry Wheetman made it 3-0 by halftime and there was worse to follow in the second half with Stone and Wheetman both scoring again and additional goals from Lee Malkin and the emerging new talent  , James Allen.

Back Lane in Congleton witnessed a tremendous cup tie between the holders , Boarhound  and Bruce. The game drew a blank in a very even first half but Dave Short livened up proceedings as he lobbed Bruce’s keeper to give the visitors the lead. It didn’t last long as Callum  Loftus  converted  a fine pass from James Hodgkinson from close range as Bruce pressed forward . Twice they were denied by the woodwork but the lively Jermaine Leveridge made them pay heading home to give Boarhound the lead. Ben Hamand made it 3-1 as he sent an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net from the edge of the penalty area before substitute Dec Fletcher  was sent racing clear to wrap the game up with number four.

A Jake McGarry hat-trick ensured Premier Division Queens go into the hat for the semi final draw after they overcame First Division  Albion on Windmill Street. McGarry gave Queens the lead before Josh Leigh equalised  but the difference between the teams began to show as Stu Ainsworth , Danny Proctor and Simon Broadhurst increased the gap to 4-1 by half time. The second half was  a tighter affair but two goals from McGarry including one from the penalty spot and a second from Josh Leigh saw Queens run out comfortable winners 6-2.

Ryan Stewart scored twice for Railway but missed a penalty

In the Subsidiary Leagues, Railway, who are already through to the knock out stages  and top their group , showed no mercy to Tytherington Juniors as they scored eleven times and had the luxury of missing a penalty when the normally prolific Ryan Stewart missed from twelve yards, although he did score twice in open play. Foremost in Railway’s demolition of their opponents was new signing  Fran Oliver . Fresh from spending twelve months travelling the world the ex AC Bollan striker scored four times on his debut. Also on the scoresheet were Jamie Collins and Jack Smith with two a piece and Mike Harrison who scored the goal of the game. On target for Juniors were Carl Barlow and Sam Frazer. As Railway ran out easy winners 11-2

Chilli Banana nearly matched Railway in the goalscoring  stakes but settled for ten instead as they beat Sporting Weston 10-0. Matt Fairhurst continues to show considerable promise as he scored five times. Josh Williamson added  two more with one from Simon Wood   . John Williams converted a penalty and the most popular goal of the day came from the head of manager Ben Jackson who scored from in a  rare appearance up field.
Matt Fairhurst scored five times against Sporting Weston to make it 21 for the season so far

In Group D –Tom Wood gave Premier Division Fermain a slender one goal advantage going into the second half against Nags Head  but they need not have worried – goals in the second half from Pete Eccles, Rob Swindells and Tom Sefton secured a comfortable victory for the visitors.
