After the fixture chaos at the back end of last season resulting from multiple postponements due to the weather the ECL management committee decided this campaign would kick off early and unusually , begin with fixtures midweek Their decision proved to be inspired as all the games kicked off in bright sunshine.
Cheadle Hulme 2 High Lane 3
New boys Cheadle Hulme set out their stall with a confident display against High Lane narrowly missing out on a share of the points thanks to some inspired defending from the visitors in particular keeper Nick Winstanley who saved a first half penalty. Rob Jackson got the home side off to a dream start heading home a corner after fifteen minutes but High Lane equalised when Jake Getcheffsky rounded the keeper and tucked the ball home from an acute angle. A goal either side of half time from man of the match Duncan Price looked to have sealed the victory for the High Lane putting them 3-1 ahead but a Scott Bradley penalty meant a frantic finale with the visitors just about hanging on.
Club AZ 1 Mary Dendy 1
Last season runners up Club AZ had the shock of their lives as they trailed after only sixteen seconds to Mary Dendy at the Mulberry Sports Complex thanks to an opportunist strike from Luke Watkin .
 |
| Dendy's Simon Lee swings a free kick into the penalty area |
In an excellent contest full of endeavour and great football Gareth Gibbons equalised on thirteen minutes sweeping home a Jon Blackburn cross after Dendy defender Lee Wilkinson got caught in two minds and was dispossessed with his back to goal . Both teams fought hard for the advantage with the speed and guile of Gibbons complementing strike partner Lee Anderson. Together they carved out the better chances with Gibbons forcing a marvellous flying save from Rob Tilley in the Dendy goal right on half time .
 |
| Olly Gates - an impressive debut at right back for Club AZ |
For Dendy , Luke Watkin was busy down the left wing and Simon Lee kept Omar Lampety in check but with two commited sides there were always going to be chances for both sides , substitute Matt Stott screwed his shot wide when clear on goal for the visitors and with minutes remaining Club AZ contrived to miss the best chance of the game with Dendy defenders desperately trying to hack the ball away. A point a piece was a fair result.
Wilmslow Sports 1 Handforth 0
In a tight derby encounter at Upcast Lane it was even stevens right the way through until two minutes from time when Chris Nevin popped up and grabbed a winner for Wilmslow. Stuart Nicolson was awarded man of the match after a solid performance at the back for the home team.
Old Alts East 3 Juno United 1
A new look Old Alts East took on a youthful Juno United in the opening game of the season. After a bright start from Juno, Old Alts East began to hit the away team on the break, resulting in Dan Sullivan bundling home the opener mid-way through the first half. The lead was doubled before half-time when Steve Wood struck a half volley from the edge of the box. The second half saw Juno United trying to play more expansive football with Captain and man of the match James Leeson working hard to unlock the Old Alts East defence. However, it was Alts who extended their lead when Marco Carluchi netted with his first touch after coming on as a substitute. Juno continued to press and, as the home team tired, Juno beat the off-side trap enabling Cameron Hague to slot home. There was to be no comeback for the visitors though as the tireless Mike Brookes ensured Alts held on to record a 3-1 victory.
Poynton Kings 3 Poynton Village 0
Goals from Adam Ledgar , Luke Murray and Josh Roberts got King’s campaign off to a fine start with a victory against neighbours Poynton Village seeing them top the table at least until the weekend.
