There has been a great deal of excitement at Vernon Primary in Poynton as they have prepared bury a time capsule. The School Council, made up of pupils from across all year groups, came up with the idea of burying a time capsule to mark the completion of the new building extension. Each class was given a subject, chosen by the council, to cover in any way they wanted. Year Two looked at hobbies of children have nowadays and Year Six designed a newspaper covering current events in school and the local area.

Mr Rob Branch, Site Manager for Willmott Dixon, Construction Limited, the company running the building project, helped by providing a length of piping which could be used as a water and insect proof capsule. Miss Julie Russell, Year 2 Teacher and Mr Branch can be seen in the picture burying it in a plot at the front of the new entrance to the school. The children hope that in ten years time it will be dug up and form part of a History project, looking at how life has changed.

Miss Russell said ‘When the builders were digging the foundations for the new extension they discovered an old time capsule that had been previously buried by Vernon school children. Unfortunately the contents had rotted, despite being put in a solid container. Hopefully this latest time capsule will endure and we shall be reading about the contents in 10 years time. No doubt the world will have changed quite considerably by then!’
