Poynton Royal British Legion Concert Band is a community band, formed in the 1970’s as the Poynton Centre Military Band and comprises around 30 talented musicians of all ages.
Musical Director, Captain (retired) Keith Hatton, is a highly qualified and tallented musician with a distinguished military career in music; he is an Associate of the Royal College of Music and Fellow of Trinity College of Music, London. Since leaving the Forces, Keith has served as Director of Music of Greater Manchester Police Band, the Lancashire Artillery Volunteers' TA Band and Conductor of Blackpool Symphony Orchestra.
Band rehearsals take place at Poynton Royal British Legion Club, Georges Road West, Poynton every Wednesday from 8.00pm to 10.00pm - and usually adjourn to the bar afterwards! The Band plays around 12 Concerts per year in the Poynton/Macclesfield area and is always on the lookout for musical talent of a suitable standard - why not come along and see what it's all about.
The Band is also currently looking for non-playing members to assist with organising its extensive library of music. This would require regular attendance at Wednesday rehearsals. If you would like to get involved, please give us a call.
The Band's programme for 2010 includes concerts for Friends of St Georges Church Poynton on Wednesday 29th September; Poynton RBL Club 27th October to launch the 2010 Poppy Appeal in Poynton; a Remembrance Concert at Macclesfield Town Hall 6th November and a Christmas Concert at Poynton Civic Hall 5th December.
