At the Annual General Meeting of the Macclesfield & District Football Association the Albert Bayley Trophy for the Sports Person of the Year was unanimously awarded to Geoff Antrobus for his outstanding service to football in the Macclesfield District and the County of Cheshire over the past 47 years.
Geoff is the current President of the Macclesfield and District Sunday Football League which he helped to co-found along with Bernard Swindells, John Stacey and Harold Wright in the 1960’s
At the same time he was also instrumental in founding Albion Rovers FC , now the only club in Macclesfield Sunday League who were there from the very start.
Geoff held many positions within the club including treasurer and was their major fundraiser running a very successful 100 Club using his influence as Site Forman to badger the labourers to contribute to. In addition, along with his late wife Sylvia , he always made sure the team were impeccably turned out, collecting the dirty team kit and returning it perfectly laundered ready for the next match .
It was a natural progression to join the Macclesfield FA which he did in 1971 and he was made a Life Member of the Association after holding a number of positions on various committees.
In 1976 Geoff was elected to the Cheshire FA and he is a Life Member serving on the Cups Committee and also the Discipline Panel.
Geoff has always taken great interest in grass roots football as well as being a season ticket holder at Old Trafford and can be seen most Sunday mornings watching a local match.
The trophy was presented to him by the President of the Macclesfield & District FA Barrie McQuinn.
