An Electrical Engineering student from Macclesfield College won first place in a Skills competition held recently at Bury College.
Apprentice Electrician Oliver Wilson, 19, beat off competition from 40 colleges from across the North of England to win the Level 3 competition and progress to the National Finals in Leeds later this month.
Oliver recognises how important his Apprenticeship programme and the combination of learning and on the job application has been in helping him achieve this success. “The practical and theory combination was definitely the best way for me to understand the trade and I have been able to learn how to do things at College and then put them into practice on site,” says Oliver.
James Peter Nixon, also from Macclesfield College was runner-up in the Level 3 competition, with both students receiving a generous amount of tools and test instruments.
Kimberley Buckley and Luke Peberdy entered into the Level 2 competition, with Luke gaining third place and taking home a medal and some test instruments.
The competition is organised by the Colleges Electrical Installation Forum (CEIF) and is sponsored by the National Association of Professional Inspectors and Testers (NAPIT).
