A local RSPCA has become completely overwhelmed after rescuing 40 sick cats from a local resident. It is the largest rescue operation ever carried out by this branch - resulting in a £10,000 vet bill and £40 per day boarding costs have left the branch in desperate need of public support.
The RSPCA Macclesfield, SE Cheshire & Buxton answered a cry for help from a local resident and were shocked to find 40 cats living together all suffering from an infection. Local branches, volunteers and inspectors all pulled together to transport these animals to and from local vets to be treated, neutered, wormed and de-flead. Many had to stay in care of vets for up to 10 days – proving very costly for the branch.
Once they were back to full health, it was a huge mission to find such a large number of rescue spaces for these cats. Fortunately local branches as far a field as Stockport, Manchester, Burrow on Furness and Crewe kindly offered some spaces. Others have been placed in foster, or in temporary accommodation at local catteries. 22 of these cats are still waiting to new homes which leaves the branch stretched to breaking point.
The RSPCA need local residents to come forward and offer loving homes for these cats. Many of them are in temporary accommodation in catteries and are not coping well from their ordeal and are very frightened. Cat rehoming officer Rebecca said: “We desperately need the public to offer homes to these cats. They range from 10 weeks to 3 years old and are mainly tabbies, torties or ginger cats - all have lovely friendly personalities that would suit families, couples or singles seeking some feline companionship.”
Rebecca warns “summer is fast approaching which is typically a busy time for rehoming, so we need to rehome these cats as quickly as possible. We try to help as many animals as we can but we have limited funds. Many people don’t realize we do not have our own catteries so we have to raise funds to rent accommodation or rely on fosterers to take in our animals until they find their forever homes.”
“We would like to say a massive thank you to all our volunteers, fosterers and those who have donated so far to help us with this huge rescue operation. We are now calling on the local public to offer any support they can.”
