A full set of fixtures in the ECL on Saturday saw Wilmslow Sports come from 2-0 down to take a point at rivals Club AZ thanks to goals from Jon O’Brien and Chris Nevin. It’s a result that sees them stay third ,but only for the time being at least with Poynton Nomads and Club AZ both able to catch them. Matt Finnerty’s AZ team will be kicking themselves they didn’t all three points having lead comfortably with first half goals from John Blackburn and Gareth Gibbons but with three games left to play they must be confident of finishing higher in the table.
Gareth Gibbons on target for Club AZ

Just above AZ lie Poynton Nomads who beat Juno United 4-2. Dan Allman opened the scoring from the penalty spot but they were soon pegged back. Further goals from Nishal Joshi, Andy Kershaw and James Morris secured the points before Juno grabbed a late consolation.

At Deva Close, Old Alts ‘A’ comfortably won the ‘battle of the basement’ against Poynton 3-1 taking an early two goal lead, Dave Howard scoring from the penalty spot in the opening five minutes. Simon Sidderley then doubling the visitors lead midway through the half.  The second half saw a spectacular strike from Rob Burgess which gave Poynton hope but  a second from Sidderley secured the points..

Poynton kings and High Lane shared the points in an eight goal thriller at Woodford Rec. High Lane took the lead but then trailed 3-1 and 4-3 before eventually snatching a point right at the death. Top scorer Jake Getcheffsky added to more to his impressive tally  for High Lane this season with Dave Wilde and Duncan Price also on target for the visitors. For Poynton Kings, who now finish in mid table, Ed Haslam, Luke Murray, Steve Lang and Colin Speed all found the net.

Finally the Boarhound juggernaut rumbles on as they  overcame Old Alts Youth 4-2 but they are beginning to look a little jaded after their record breaking season . Twice Old Alts Youth centre half Norman Crowther  was left unmarked in the penalty area to head home unchallenged.  The first, akin to a goal you might see at the Britannia Stadium watching Stoke City of the Premier League, saw  captain Andy Wallace firing a huge throw from the touchline into the 18 yard box and Crowther powerfully heading home.

Unfortunately for the visitors they trailed 3-0 at the time thanks to goals from Dave Short and a brace from Dec Fletcher. Crowther’s second , another header gave them hope at 3-2 with striker Andy Masey having already forced a tremendous save from keeper Anthony Connolly earlier in the half but Shaun Gill’s first goal of the season for Boarhound with five minutes remaining settled the game.
