This weeks round –Up from the ECL
League
The ECL is reaching an intriguing climax and one of the closest finishes for many a year. With Boarhound already crowned champions for the second season in a row the battle for second place with five clubs lining up behind them.
Mary Dendy who’ve held second spot for several weeks now await the results of other games to see if they can hold on to second spot but it seems unlikely as all the clubs below them have games in hand and a better goal difference. They had the chance to break the forty point barrier at the weekend but they could only secure a point after a 1-1 draw against a rampant Nomads who will consider themselves extremely unlucky to go back without securing a win. It was a fine rear guard performance from Dendy who trailed to a goal from Tom Gaskell and struggled to get into the game on a hard pitch. Rob Tilley was outstanding in goal for the home side and time and again he foiled the Nomads attack allowing his side the chance to get back in the game following a goal from Martin Brunker. Nomads thought they’d snatched the winner in the final seconds but referee Rick Bradfield had seen an infringement and the goal was chalked off. Nomads were devastated and it showed , Dan Allman seeing red for his protestations

Poynton Kings won their local derby against Poynton 6-2 with four goals in the final fifteen minutes.. The sides were evenly matched and in a close first half Kings held a slender 2-1 advantage. Centre half Liam Grant , who had already scored Poynton’s first , doubled his tally in the second half volleying home the equaliser but with injuries to keeper Dan Wild and influential sweeper Euan McKinnen Poynton lost their momentum and Kings took maximum advantage . Ian Jefferson , Ed Haslam , Jordan Grifiths with two, Max McCarthy and Luke Murray all finding the net.
Wilmslow Sports kept in touch with the leaders with a comfortable 4-0 victory at home to Old Alts Youth. They too can overhaul Mary Dendy and in this form who’d bet against them. Danny Seatree, Jon O’Brien , Ben Langstreath and Chris Nevin all finding the net.
At Crossford Bridge all the goals came in the first half as Old Alts played out a 1-1 draw with Juno who have dropped down the table in quite spectacular fashion after their exit from the Stockport and District Cup. Kevin Austin scored for Alts with Juno equalising courtesy of some great work from Mark Hughes.
Another draw , this time at Bollington Rec as Inter Macc and High Lane shared the points in a 2-2 draw. Jake Getcheffsky and Dave Wilde both scoring for the visitors. .
