Macc & District Sunday Football League Review
21st March
Premier Division
Usual service was resumed in the Premier Division as Pack Horse returned to the top of the table on goal difference after an 8-1 drubbing of Prestbury Club . It was a fine all round performance by the Pack as six different players found the net but the catalyst was Matt Towns who returned from his stint in the League Of Wales to lead the line. On target for the Pack were Simon Gibbons with three, Nick Stone, Harry Wheetman, Simon Band, Sean Gill with his first for the club and finally one for man of the match Matt Towns.
AC Bollan thumped an out of form Vale side 6-0 in the sunshine at Bollington Rec keeping the pressure on Oxfford should they slip up. No one player stood out as six different players found the net. Tim Hammond opened the scoring and was closely followed by Fran Oliver, Andy Davies, Sam Dicken, James Wheeler and Tom Moores.

| Tom Druce (purple shirt) in action for Albion Rovers |
Albion Rovers revival continues as they overcame fellow strugglers Macc Boys Seniors 5-2. Leading 2-1 at half time they out battled Macc Boys who at times play wonderful attacking football but can look extremely vulnerable at the back. Despite Eddie Roberts’s twelveth goal of the season in all competitions for the visitors Albion scored five times to take the points and leapfrog over Macc Boys giving them a chance of finishing in a respectable mid table position come the end of the season . Rovers scorers were Tom Druce , Gary Chapman with two , Dave Barratt and Liam Fisher.
FIRST DIVISION
Seemingly the game of the day was at Congleton Road where first placed Hollins played second placed Nags Head.
 |
| Action from Nags Head v Hollins- Neil Smith and Jon Browning compete for possession |
It was a predictably tight affair with neither side dominating possession and few goal scoring opportunities for either side .The result , a 2-2 draw was probably about right on the balance of play but in reality did neither team any favours with Queens Arms right on their tails. Scorers for Nags were Mark Gee and a spectacular strike from Neil Smith to make it 2-2 in the last quarter of the game . For Hollins , Jon Browning and Gaz Burns earned them a share of the spoils.
Queens have been rising up the table seemingly un noticed –until now that is. Their 3-1 victory away at Poynton Legion saw them close within a point of Nags Head with two games in hand. Legion took the lead through Luke Williams but by half time they trailed 2-1 following goals from Sam Davidson and Scott Wright. Simon Williams, so used to scoring plenty of goals, particularly in the last few weeks was charged with preventing them this week as he played in goal , but he was powerless as Stuart Ainsworth secured all three points from the penalty spot in the second half.
It finished all square at Bollington Cross as Spinners and Railway fought out a hard earned draw . Dave Grindey gave Spinners the lead in the first half before Chris Coxen made it one a piece in the second half with his thirteenth goal of the season.
Macc Boys Juniors made sure they were back in the title hunt after beating Sporting Kerridge 4-1 at Clarke Lane. They gifted the home side a shock early lead when Arron Loftus put through his own net but it was never going to be enough and Juniors came storming back with four of their own through Neil Woodward, James Wooten with two and Duncan Hodges.
Chester Road’s team held an inquest into the manner of their defeat at the side of the pitch for several minutes after a disappointing 3-1 defeat to Poynton at Congleton Road. Jon Blackburn’s goal clearly wasn’t enough as Poynton banged in three of their own through Dave Berwick , Ric Cash and Greg Willis.

| Lee McIntyre scores for Tythy Juniors with a flying volley |
A tremendously entertaining game at Congleton Road between Chilli Banana and Tythy Juniors saw Tythy take all three points following a 3-2 victory. Both sides contained strikers signed from Premier division leaders Pack Horse so their was no shortage of fire power. Mike Meszaros, another former Pack player opened the scoring for the visitors but back came Tythy. Lee McIntyre scored twice , his first a spectacular flying volley from a Dan Avery corner his second from the penalty spot with Nick Hadfield adding a third before Jono Campbell made it 3-2.
