Joy for Poynton Nomads and Wilmslow Sports but heartache for Inter Macc , Old Alts and Club AZ

Round up of this weekend’s games.

Inter-League Cup 2nd Round

One week back into a full set of fixtures and once again the weather intervened to force the postponement of four of the nine scheduled games.

Boarhound v Lostock Reserves, Malpas v Old Alts Youth, Poynton Kings v Poynton  all fell foul of frozen pitches as did the one league game between Juno United and High Lane.

There were mixed fortunes for the ECL sides against their Crewe and District league opponents with Poynton Nomads and Wilmslow Sports  both going through to Round Three but there was no such joy for Club AZ , Old Alts or Inter Macc.

Result of the round was  Poynton Nomads 3-2 victory away against Bentley at their Legends Sports Ground. Tom Gaskell scoring twice and Alan Hay once against a strongly fancied Bentley side who’d scored six times in their only other outing in January in a league game against Tarpoley Vics Reserves.

Also through to Round three are Wilmslow Sports after an impressive win at home against Barnton Reserves. Jon O’Brian led the scoring with two, Nick Russell and Mike Cain also finding the net.

Club AZ found themselves on the wrong side of a 3-2 score line against Curshaws  in the only tie to go to extra time. Twice Club AZ came from behind to draw level through Jon Blackburn and Paul Bethal but when the hosts scored in the first half of extra time it proved a step to far.

Inter Macc left Winnington Avenue disappointed as they too went down 3-2 after playing the better football  .A Jake McGarry penalty and a Ray Warburton goal proved little comfort.

In the fifth cup tie of the day to produce five goals Old Alts only had themselves to blame as they conceded four times in an error strewn first half . Despite shutting out Tarpoley Vics Reserves in the second half and scoring once themselves the damage had already been done.
