Students of all ages and abilities from Macclesfield College, Macclesfield High School and Park Lane School entered posters, postcards, poems, short stories and photographs into this year’s Equality and Diversity competition.
The annual competition allows students to celebrate the diverse society we live in and raises the issues of equality of opportunities for all. The response was excellent, with 149 entries this year compared to 88 last year.
After much deliberation by the judges 17 finalists were chosen to attend an awards ceremony where they received cash prizes and certificates from College Principal, Wendy Wright. The finalists were:

Wendy told the finalists, ‘You can feel really proud that your work was selected by the judges to be in the final. As always, the standard was very high and the judging panel were impressed with all the students' work, particularly the entries from Macclesfield High School.’
Special mention was made of The Equalisers, whose well written, thought provoking poem had been professionally transformed into a rap which was played at the ceremony.
The Learning Zone is a very diverse community of roughly 9,000 students and hundreds of staff. All the organisations are committed to ensuring everyone has the opportunity to develop to their full potential and this competition provides a fun and creative way for students to celebrate diversity and raise the profile of equal opportunities.
