Poynton  3     Wilmslow  Sports    2

Before this match began it had ‘ away win’ stamped all over it . Wilmslow lying second in the table and scoring plenty of goals against a Poynton side rock bottom of the league and without a win all season. How wrong can you be! Poynton turned the form book upside down and in the process probably ended Wilmslow’s hope of wrestling the league title from rivals Boarhound as they lost for the second time this season. Poynton however will be delighted . Not only did they secure their first win of the season but in the process they took one of the most prized scalps in the division in Wilmslow .

The game took place in dreadful conditions with Wilmslow taking a 2-0 lead in the first half thanks to goals from Mark Lawrie and John O’Brian . Elliot Schofield bundled the ball over the line to pull one back for Poynton and then Ewen McKinnon unleashed an unstoppable free kick which flew into the top corner to tie the game. The winner came with fifteen minutes remaining as Elliot Schofield added his second  much to the delight of his Poynton team mates.

Boarhound   13    Juno United    0

A terrible day for Juno who were quite simply blown away by a rampant Boarhound who look on course for another league title after demolishing  their opponents at Congleton Road. The  score line might suggest a nightmare performance from a  goalkeeper having conceded thirteen times , far from it. Rich Lane in the visitors goal was quite outstanding making several excellent saves  and drew special praise from Boarhound ‘s manager Maurice Sutton.
Jamie Collins scored twice for Boarhound

Boarhound were in a different class as Dec Fletcher scored four , Andy Foote three, Dave Barratt and Jamie Collins two a piece  and Simon Gibbons and Matty Roberts completing the rout.

Mary Dendy    3       Old Alts Youth     2

Mary Dendy go second as they managed to hold out despite a late rally by the visitors . In difficult conditions both sides did their best to pass the ball and it was Old Alts who had much of the early possession without creating any meaningful chances. Dendy scored first, very much against the run of play  when Simon Nicholson jinked his way through the Old Alt’s defence to slide the ball home  and Martin Brunker added a second as he poked the ball home from close range after keeper Rob Richards had failed to hold onto a Neil Hodgkinson cross in what were difficult handling conditions for goalkeepers.

Dendy had a chance to increase their lead four minutes before half time after Chris Coppenhall appeared to be felled spectacularly in the penalty area and referee Rick Bradfield awarded a penalty kick . Matt Morris normally deadly from twelve yards ,failed to convert  the penalty. Old Alts fought back in the second half and Dave Richards pulled a goal back with three minutes remaining to cue a frantic lend to the game. Simon Nicholson made it 3-1 to Dendy right on ninety minutes but with five minutes stoppage time there was still time for the visitors to score again , substitute Alan Littler turning and crashing home a spectacular volley from 10 yards.

Poynton Kings     2    Club AZ     5

Poynton Kings will feel disappointed that they let three points slip away as twice they held the lead only to concede  three late goals to Club AZ who have really hit form. Ali Breed and Andy Wright  had both put  King’s ahead but two goals each from Rick Mottershead  and Will Beighton put paid to any chance of a come back with Mike Clulow adding a fifth.

Poynton Nomads    3   High Lane    3

High Lane and Poynton shared the points after an entertaining game at Bollington Recreation ground. High Lane took a 2-0 lead before a superb 25 yard  free kick  from Dan Allman got Nomads back in the game at 2-1 . Allman then brought the hosts level from the penalty spot when Josh Bates was chopped down in the penalty area to take the sides in level at the break.

High Lane dominated possession as Nomads tired in the second half but Jon Cains  gave Nomads the lead sloting home a rebound after High Lane’s keeper failed to hold onto the greasy ball.. High Lane bombarded Nomads goal in search of an equaliser and finally succeeded with minutes remaining to give themselves a deserved share of the points. On target for High Lane, Jason Rathmill, Tony Graydon and Jake Getchevsky.
