Match Reports from Sat. 24th Oct
Inter- League Cup First Round.
Teams from the ECL got the better of their counterparts from the Crewe and District league in the annual cup competition between the two rival leagues with five teams through from eight ties . ECL sides have lifted the trophy in the last three seasons, Boarhound ,the current holders, thrashed Sandbach 9-2 to keep a firm grip on the trophy .
Boarhound 9 Sandbach Town 2
Boarhound proved it’s going to be extremely difficult for any team to wrestle the Inter-League trophy from their grasp as they easily disposed of Sandbach Town at Congleton Road. Their twin strike force of Dec Fletcher and Simon Gibbons have now scored twenty eight goals between them this season with Gibbons adding four and Fletcher three against the side from the Crewe and District League.

| Dave Clowes scored a trade mark header for Boarhound against Sandbach Town |
Jamie Collins added another and centre half Dave Clowes rounded off the game scoring a trade mark header.
Cuddington 1 Inter Macc 4
Inter Macc comfortably defeated their hosts 4-0 with an assured display at Norley Road. Manager Damien Druce was pleased with his side’s performance but was disappointed they conceded so late in the game which prevented his side from keeping their first clean sheet of the season.
On target for Inter Macc were Steve Turner with two, Will Perry and Mark Kinsella.
High Lane 1 Curshaws 5
High Lane failed to make it into round two finding high flying Curshaws tough opposition at Disley Sports Club. They held out for sixteen minutes but a goal keeping mistake let in the visitors for the opener and they scored two more before half time using the windy conditions to their advantage. They increased their advantage to four before a rare foray up field by High Lane resulted in an own goal but it was always going to be Curshaws day as they cruised into the next round with five different players on the score sheet.
Juno United 1 Winnington Avenue 3
Juno gave themselves a mountain to climb as they trailed on their Gatley pitch 2-0 at half time despite twice hitting the wood work. A third goal for the visitors wrapped up the match and Matt Woodwards’s goal for Juno fifteen minutes was academic.
Lostock Gralem Res. 4 Mary Dendy 0
Manager Paul Cronshaw’s message to his Dendy side after yet another disappointing defeat was simple and sumed up their month. Having played four and lost four he commented ‘Listen Lads , October didn’t happen ….roll on November’ After three wins out of four in September they were top of the league , now at the end of October they have been knocked out of two cup competitions and lie fifth in the league. How quickly fortunes in football can change ! A 4-0 scoreline was harsh on the Dendy who had enough chances to be at least level by half time but they trailed 2-0 after conceding twice in the first twenty minutes , the first an own goal and the second neatly tucked away by left winger Raj Tandon after a fine save by Dendy’s keeper. A third goal early in the second half was cruel on Dendy and proves that when lady luck is not with you , it’s not going to be your day, centre half James Curbishley scoring past his own keeper with an unstoppable flying header from a Lostock corner. Oli Ince added insult to injury wrapping up the game with a fourth in stoppage time.
Old Alts Youth 1 Sandbach United 0
Kieron Joyce was the hero for Old Alts Youth as he scored the winner five minutes from time at Crossford Bridge.
Winnington Avenue Res 2 Old Alts 6
Old Alts join Old Alts Youth in the draw for the second round after a wonderful display at Jubilee Fields particularly in the second half as they scored three times with out reply. It’s an encouraging result for Alts , so many times over the last two seasons they have promised so much particularly in the opening fourty five minutes only to fall apart in the latter stages of games .
 |
| Old Alts 's James Davenport was amongst the goals in an impressive win at Winnington Avenue Res. |
This result proves under Martin Officer’s shrewd guidance they are certainly ‘on the up’. On the scoresheet for Alts were Adam Officer with two, Dave Holden, James Davenport , Simon Sydderley and Luke Hewitt.
MMU Alsager 1 Poynton Nomads 3
Poynton Nomads made it into the Second Round and had player manager Tom Gaskell to thank as he scored all three goals to send his side through at Hassall Road in Alsager . Opening the scoring in the first half Gaskell doubled Nomad’s lead early in the second half as he was first to react to a loose ball when Mark Toomey’s shot was well saved by MMU’s keeper. The home team twitched round their midfield and it paid off, they pulled a goal back five minutes later had the visitors on the back foot and were then awarded a penalty and a chance to get back on level terms. Jack Gaskell saved brilliantly and then Tom Gaskell ended any hopes the hosts may have had as he took advantage of hesitancy in MMU’s defence to complete his hat-trick.

Poynton 2 Club AZ 13
For any team who is superstitious thirteen is often considered an unlucky number – it was for Poynton . Having taken the lead with a wonderful header from Scott Bajic the home side were quite simply given a lesson in football by the AZ who have now proved , without a shadow of a doubt they have turned the corner and are back on track after a decidedly shakey start to the season.
Rick Mottershead led the scoring with five, Paul Bethel scored a hat-rick , James Flower scored twice , one a thunderous shot from fully thirty yards and there were further goals from Rick Heapy , Ian Goodrun and Jon Blackburn one of the few survivors from the first match of the season.
Wilmslow Sports 3 Poynton Kings 3
Wilmslow breathed a sigh of relief after managing to scrape a point from this game which they really should have lost. Kings dominated the match but had to come from behind as Sam Bowers opened the scoring with his seventh goal of the season. They then took over with goals from Dave Brindle, Nick Griffiths and Jack Butterworth but two goals from Bobby Fletcher saved the day for Wilmslow who remain second.
