Action from the Preliminary Round
Plenty of goals in the preliminary round of this season’s FA Sunday Cup and as befits cup football, one or two surprises!
Through to the First Round proper go last season’s runners-up , Poynton Workman from the East Cheshire Sunday league who defeated Unicorn 2-0.
A goal in each half was enough to see them through, Jake Wright opening the scoring and John Cairns making it 2-0 in the second half. Also through are Farmers Arms from the East Cheshire Sunday Second Division who defeated Tytherington Juniors 3-0 with goals from Dan Henry and two from Chris Hobson.

Action from AC Bollan v Railway View
At Bollington Rec, AC Bollan showed their potential for the season as they easily put paid to First Division Railway Views’s hopes of a cup run winning 4-0 thanks to a brace from Tim Hammond and one a piece from James Wheeler and Andy Davies.
New boys Poynton Legion had a torrid start to their Sunday league season as they came up against a rampant Pack Horse side who eventually ran out 7-1 victors. It could have been so much worse as the Pack blazed into a 4-0 lead inside twenty minutes with Poynton barely able to get out of their own half.

Simon Gibbons scored twice for Pack Horse
Such was the Pack’s dominance goalkeeper Anthony Connolly’s first touch of the ball was to score their fifth goal from the penalty spot when Simon Gibbons was hauled down in the area. However he was left with egg on his face minutes later as he came out to clear a back pass and completely missed the ball leaving Dan Booth to pass the ball into an empty net.

Dan Booth scored Poynton Legion's goal
Poynton started the second half much stronger and for ten minutes they had the upper hand but with Pack Horse able to bring on fresh legs it didn’t last with the visitors scoring twice more. Credit to Legion , particularly goalkeeper Josh Yeoman who made a string of fine saves and but for his heroics and some wayward finishing it really could have been a nightmare start to the season for them. Simon Gibbons scored twice for the Pack with Terry Costello, Martin Quigley, Anthony Connolly, Nick Stone and Lee Malkin all on target.
A bad tempered game at Kerridge saw Chilli Banana and Disley 2nds both finish the game with ten men but it was home side’s day as they won comfortably 5-0. Jack Sephton opened the scoring in the first half before seeing red with the other goals coming from Jack Hoyle, Tom Hoyle, Mike Meszaros and an own goal.
At Great Warford , ill discipline cost Powys Arms the game as they ended up losing 7-1 to Oxfford and finishing with nine players despite having taken the lead in the first half. Liam Gray scored the pick of the goals from the half way line as he returned a kick from the visitors goalkeeper straight in the top corner. Further goals came from Ryan Fitter, Jack Jones, Chris Mason with two, John Slater and Dave Billington. Oxfford will be hoping to go one better this season as they made the semi finals last year and were knocked out by the eventual winners , Alderley Royal Oak.
Vale Hoppers made it safely through to Round One with a surprisingly easy 4-2 victory against Nags Head having twice come from behind. Nags twice took the lead through Rick Davis and Scott Simister but couldn’t hold on as each time the Hoppers came back through Joe Gosling and Matt McBride. McBride again and Sean Greaves completed the scoring. Lee Anderson, in goal for Nags salvaged some pride with a fine penalty save, although he had committed the foul himself.
In an all First Division clash at Bollington Cross, Spinners booked their place in Round One with a thrilling 5-3 victory against Hollins. Spinner’s Nathan Hulley opened his cup account with a contender for goal of the season but it wasn’t enough as the home side trailed 1-2 at half time. An inspired substitution in the second half changed the game as Dave Lovatt came off the bench to score twice for Spinners and with Luke Wild also grabbing two Hollins were undone and sadly for them, out of the cup. Hollin’s goals came from Roy Rostrum, John Browning and striker Ali Heathcote.
At Back Lane, Congleton Bolly Vets cup run came to an abrupt end as they were soundly beaten by First Division Vale 5-1. Tom Jackson and Dan Mountford both scored twice , Adam Hall adding a fifth.
