Macc Youth 3 Stalybridge 0
This season marks a milestone for Macc Youth as it’s the last season in charge for Mike Cunningham after seventeen years as manager and he’s hoping to go out on a high by picking up a piece of silverware. The omens are good , five years ago they lost in the Youth Cup Final 1-0 to Altrincham, then went onto to capture the trophy themselves the following season. Last season they made the final again , and lost 1-0 to Wirral. What will this season hold ?
If today’s victory against Stalybridge is anything to go by it looks promising.
The first half produced a stalemate but both sides created plenty of chances. Macc were lucky not to concede as early as five minutes when Matt Young ‘s free kick found David Parkinson unmarked but his powerful header went over the bar. For Macc , the impressive Tom Deans went close.

The second half was a different story, Stalybridge ‘s Adam Hilton who’d tormented Macc down the left wing was switched to the right wing and barely got a kick . Captain Jai Maw buzzed around midfield breaking up play and surging forward but it was Tim Whitehead who finally broke the deadlock on 27 minutes crashing home an unstoppable volley from close range giving Stalybridge keeper Saul Lomax-Newton absolutely no chance. Maw made it 2-0 five minutes later but the goal of the game came right on full time as centre half Chris Holland finished off a delightful one two with Maw again involved.
