Across the country millions of people will gain a vocational qualification this year that will act as their stepping stone to a brighter future. The 24th June sees Macclesfield College celebrate national annual VQ Day, to recognise this vocational achievement.
At Macclesfield College, a whole range of vocational qualifications are available, for people of all ages, such as NVQs, BTECs, City & Guilds, Apprenticeships and professional qualifications awarded through a recognised professional body.
These qualifications relate directly to a specific job role or sector and have an emphasis on developing practical skills and knowledge, with assessment by written and practical examinations.

In 2007/2008, there were 686 NVQs alone studied at Macclesfield College and students achieved a 78% success rate, 9% above the national benchmark. Vocational qualifications continue to be a popular and relevant choice for students who are awaiting their results this year, or looking to develop new skills from September.
Wendy Wright, Principal of Macclesfield College, commented:
‘Students who study vocational qualifications at Macclesfield College progress on to further study and university as well as developing the skills needed for employment. Employers are increasingly demanding candidates with work-ready skills and vocational qualifications are an ideal way to provide this.’
National VQ Day raises the profile of vocational qualifications and communicates their value to future students, potential employers and the wider public.
VQ ambassador and celebrity chef, James Martin, comments:
“VQ Day is a chance for learners to celebrate their achievements. It showcases not only the variety of qualifications available, but the doorways a vocational qualification can open and the many people who have gone on to excel in their chosen field. As a vocational learner myself, I relish the opportunity to lend my support.”
