The ‘Engineering -Girls Can Do It Too’ project, run by Macclesfield College, aims to encourage girls and young women into engineering careers. As well as enjoying a tour of the Commons and Lords debating chambers, the girls met project supporter Claire Curtis-Thomas MP, the first professional female engineer to enter Parliament.
As a Chartered Engineer and a member of the House of Commons Science and Technology Select Committee, Claire talked to the girls about the importance of engineering and how women can work within engineering and Parliament to make a real difference.

The girls were joined for lunch at Portcullis House by Sir Nicholas Winterton MP and Terry Marsh, Director of WISE (Women into Science, Engineering and Construction). During a lively question and answer session the girls were told about the woman who had helped to design the London Eye, which they later took a trip on to experience the technology first hand.
