Macc & District FA Saturday Cup Semi Final
Club AZ ( CL ) 2 Club AZ ( ECL ) 0
Club AZ’s Cheshire league side reached the final of the Macc & District Saturday Cup Final once again after a comfortable victory against their East Cheshire League rivals.
The ECL side started the game confident they could put one over their more illustrious opponents but a Craig Scott header as early as the second minute dashed their hopes. John Whitehead normally a full back was outstanding partnering Rick Heapy in the centre of defence but even he didn’t spot Andy Forbes sneaking in unmarked to stab home a free kick at the far post to kill the tie with ten minutes remaining.

Mary Dendy 0 Boarhound 5
Dendy were no match for a rampant Boarhound who despite plenty of possession only led 1-0 at half time thanks to a Jamie Collins strike on the half hour. Ironically it came from a long punt upfield by goalkeeper Gaz Hughes after Dendy had their best chance of the game. The home team battled hard with captain Andy Currie and player manager Paul Cronshaw setting the example but with no creative outlet the long balls pumped upfield were simply returned with interest.

Barely a minute into the second half Ian Potts jinked his way into the penalty area and his accomplished finish made it 2-0 and killed any vain hope Dendy had of getting back into the game. Substitute Andy Foote came on and scored with his first touch and man of the match and ex Dendy player, Ryan Stewart compounded Dendy’s misery adding two more.
High Lane 2 Old Alts Youth 2
Old Alts Youth twice came from behind to take a point against High Lane who are getting better as the season progresses. Leading marksman Marc Lilleyman opened the scoring ten minutes into the second half only to see the visitors equalise moments later. Man of the match Glyn Chorlton blasted home from 15 yards to give the home side the lead on 80 minutes but once again it was the visitors who came storming back grabbing a point with a double deflected own goal.
Wilmslow Sports 6 Poynton 1
Wilmslow moved back to the top of the ECL with a comprehensive victory against Poynton. However despite the score line, Sports’ club Secretary Anthony Cummings was quick to praise the contribution of left back Howard Kirk who he said was outstanding. Full credit to Poynton who only had a Chris Oake goal to show for their efforts but with Wilmslow scored six times to show they are the team to catch as the race for the title hots up. On the scoresheet for Wilmslow were Wayne Lord and Martin Shardlow who scored two a piece with Tom Gill and Dan Dakin getting one each.
Juno 1 Old Alts Vets 3
A welcome win for the Vets who have been going through a rough time of late. Andy Graham set them on their way to victory and despite a late penalty from Darren Wilson an own goal ensured the points went back to Crossford Bridge.
