Semi - Final
Poynton Res 0 Congleton Vale 3
Congleton eased into the Macc and District FA Saturday Cup final with what turned out to be a comfortable victory in the end as Poynton lost their discipline and their keeper in the final quarter.
Vale just seemed to have that added composure and coped easily with the strike threat of John Cairns and Mike Siddall. Winger Matt Swift gave Vale the lead on thirteen minutes but it wasn’t until the 75th minute that they scored again, Tom Jackson breaking clear of the offside trap to unselfishly set up team mate Jake Moss to side foot home. Poynton were livid and keeper Rob Hodgson let his disappointment get the better of him as he saw red for comments aimed at the referee’s assistant .
Down to ten men and with no replacement keeper on the bench Poynton struggled and Vale took full advantage securing victory with a fabulous goal from man of the match Tom Jackson who collected a cross from Matt Swift on his chest and volleyed the ball home.
Vale now go on to meet either Club AZ’s Cheshire league side or their East Cheshire side who meet in the other semi .
